Are you in debt? What does this mean, psychologically?

Getting good at going on a shopping spree and generating debt? Living pay cheque to pay cheque? Putting all your faith in overdraft protection? Just like with all other bad patterns, if you see a trend involving the lack of money, you might want to take a deeper look within your own psyche to finally solve the problem. Wouldn’t it be interesting to discover that the way out of debt was to simply practice new thoughts and emotions?!  

Some practitioners (myself included), maintain that what you experience in life is a direct manifestation of what’s going on inside your mind, body, and heart. Only finding insecure romantic partners?  This means that you, yourself, are insecure. Attracting criticism from your boss? This means that you, yourself, are being self-critical.  Getting multiple traffic tickets? This means that you, yourself, are somehow self-reprimanding. 

So what about the concept of money? If you buy into the theory explained above, how might our thoughts and emotions produce debt? Well, think about this. What does debt feel like? Whether or not we are talking about financial debt, the concept of indebtedness involves the sense of owing. If you are in a chronic sense of owing, you are never even, squared, or at par with other people. You are always unequal and have the constant pressure of needing to give something to relieve debt. So what might be the chronic thought pattern of someone who has generated debt: “I’m less than,” “I’m not good enough to be where they are,” “I am not worthy of receiving anything good or prosperous.” What if I told you that you’d have to work on restructuring thoughts like these to finally be relieved of debt?

Essentially, new thoughts would generate new inspiration which would generate new behaviors. As a result, you (for example) won’t see bills in the same way and you therefore won’t pay them the same way (instead, you will find better resolutions or payment plans). Essentially, you will begin to see solutions that you never saw before when you choose to restructure those thoughts of feeling less than, not good enough, unworthy, and indebted. With new and improved feelings of worthiness and confidence, you will allow yourself to finally receive what you deserve as oppose to constantly giving what you owe!  

My point put simply is that people who have a constant pattern of maintaining or accumulating debt have core beliefs that are perpetuating their debt. Core beliefs of feeling less than, not good enough, and/or unworthy are keeping them in a state of lack. They need to restructure these unhealthy core beliefs to finally start changing their financial situations for the better.

Listen, if nothing else has worked in the past to get you out of debt, this trick is definitely worth a try!
